One Million Meals to Communities in Need

Our pledge to deliver one million meals to those in need follows a recent report by the Food Foundation, which reveals an estimated 4.7 million adults (9% of households) have been affected by food poverty over the past six months.

To help in the fight against food poverty, we’re working with our unique network of grocers, partners and restaurants to get good food to those who need it – delivering one million meals to communities across the UK.

We’ve partnered with Pret A Manger to help The Pret Foundation deliver fresh, unsold products to frontline charities like Lookahead, St. Mungo’s and many more.

We’re working with Waitrose, to deliver thousands of meals to FareShare – who then drop deliver food to charities and community groups across the UK.

And in London, we’re helping Co-op’s Food Share programme reach local families and households that can’t physically access it – providing transport six days a week to take surplus food from Co-op stores to The Felix Project, who will then redistribute it to communities in need.

But it’s not just our trusted partners that are helping get one million meals to those in need, we’ve also teamed up with our long-time friend Maya Jama, who was a presenter and panelist at the Deliveroo Restaurant Awards 2020.

This campaign is close to Maya’s heart as she was raised by her mum and aunties. Her mum worked multiple jobs to provide for her family and she knows personally how important it is for communities to pull together and the difference it can make to individual lives.

To help spread the word, Maya will carry out deliveries with charity partners and make surprise visits to recipients of the donation to understand what more can be done to help the lives of vulnerable communities.

Together with our incredible network of restaurant partners, riders, and supporters we can help fight food poverty in the UK and help everyone to lead a full life.

I’m so fortunate to have a platform and a voice that will be heard, so I want to do what I can to raise awareness about how severe the food poverty crisis is here in the UK. I know Deliveroo has already donated so much and uses its network as a force for good, so when I heard about the new ‘Full Life’ campaign, I wanted to join the fight and encourage more brands to follow suit because that’s what it is, it’s a fight against hunger. We can all do so much more to ensure food equality across the country.”
