Fitness motivation
Fitness motivation can be tough at the best of times. All sorts of people have trouble staying motivated when it comes to fitness – everyone from those who enjoy a walk to keep fit, right up to high-performance athletes and bodybuilders.
There are plenty of things you can do to boost your fitness motivation. Here’s how to start:
Firstly, write down all the reasons that you don’t want to exercise. Then write down why you should exercise. Compare them. I’ll be the reasons to exercise is a lot longer!
If that doesn’t work, maybe you just need to find something you enjoy to boost your fitness motivation. When I was having trouble keeping motivated to stay fit I joined a netball team. I had a great time and even went from being the worst player on the team (I hadn’t played for a LONG time) to winning most improved at the end of the season!
Another idea to help fitness motivation is to get one of your friends to work out with you. Whether its going to the gym, a yoga or pilates class or even just for a walk, its likely its going to be a lot more fun with a friend. Not only that, if you know you’ve got to meet someone you’re going to be a whole lot less likely to bail!
One of the biggest things I have found to boost my fitness motivation is getting a personal trainer. Contrary to popular belief, personal training doesn’t have to cost the earth. My trainer is very affordable, and she’s also very good. I train with her twice a week and because of the results I’m seeing I’m motivated to keep going by myself as well! I’m stronger, slimmer, more toned and all round a lot healthier than I’ve been in years.
The most impotant thing about fitness motivation is that your reasons for exercising and keeping fit are for you. It might be an opportunity for some personal time out, it might be something deeper. Remember you are doing this for yourself. At the end of the day, no-one can keep fit or lose weight for you. You only have one body in this life, so make sure that you nuture it and take care of it the best you can.
